Neighbourhood Watch Controller
A neighbourhood watch controller is there to monitor the threat of crime and anti social activity by organising various citizen protection schemes in the local community. They are police citizen staff and work as part of the council's neighbourhood watch campaign as a highly visible presence in communities that suffer from local disturbances and anti-social disruption. They are responsible for developing strong links with the local community and key members of the council.
Their day-to-day activities usually comprise: Getting involved with local neighbourhood watch community projects; recruiting team members; reporting crime and anti-social behaviour; performing street patrols; producing annual reports to be presented to the police on the progress of these community projects; performing routine checks on abandoned or damaged property; and providing guidance, information and support to related agencies such as age concern, youth clubs and social services.
The position holder would be educated to a reasonable standard (i.e. GCSE standard or above), and would possess strong IT, numeracy and verbal and written communication skills. Previous experience in the field of crime prevention, or ideal Neighbourhood Watch would be favourable, but not essential. He or she would hold a full UK drivers licence and access to a working vehicle as some travelling around the UK may be required. Training is provided for successful candidates.
Qualifications: There are no pre-entry requirement other than a reasonable basic level of education, A relevant qualification, such as an NVQ or equivalent in customer services and training would be preferable.
Experience: Related experience in front line police or council enforcement would be advantageous, though not essential.
Skills: Written and verbal communication skills, numeracy skills, people skills, IT skills, team management skills would be favourable.
