Work With Offenders - The Choices

Senior Community Safety Officer

Neighbourhood nuisance officers are responsible for organising and executing community safety and neighbourhood nuisance services across a wide range of areas in the UK. The position holder will be able to influence the actions and decisions of enforcement and prevention services as well as leading their own small team and formulating new and exciting ways of working. The position does, understandably, carry with it a high level of responsibility.

The position holder will work across coastal, urban and rural areas, and will deal with various relative issues and complaints including noise disturbances, anti-social behaviour and land- drainage. Duties include performing various examinations, surveys and inspections of premises, land, products and practices. The role involves some administrative and office work, so previous relevant experience would be a great advantage to prospective position fillers.

Relevant qualifications (such as a degree in a topic relating to Environmental Health) are not essential, but the correct skills are. A successful applicant would have strong people skills and know how to deal with crises situations (usually involving disruptive people) in a diplomatic and diffusive way. The position filler will be expected to bring their own new ideas to the table and, in doing so, set new precedents for the application of community safety measures.

They will also need to work well as part of a team so experience in an office role would be desirable. Strong verbal communication skills are necessary as Officers spend a lot of their time talking on the phone and organising projects. Project presentations are often required, so a successful candidate would be able to confidently pitch and would be literate in producing relevant text.

Qualifications: Relevant qualifications (such as a degree in a topic relating to Environmental Health).

Experience: Two years in a related local enforcement setting.

Skills: People skills, IT, written and verbal communication skills.
