Waste Contract Monitoring Officer
The position holder works as part of the Waste Management Service to provide technical support to the contracts manager. They are essentially there to assist the manager in monitoring standards of quality and best practice in the organisation. These operate in compliance with the Waste Management Service Contract as well as the standards laid out under the Citizens Charter. Some out of hours work may be required of the position holder, including evening and/or weekend work.
Day-to-day activities may involve: Designing, organising and executing systems to check any data offered by waste contract managers as a means of assessing all claims of payment; liaising with contractors and resolving problems that they may be encountering; staying on top of changes in a contractor’s development scheme; ensuring that health and safety standards are being observed by the contractor; providing advice, guidance and general assistance with public relations, publicity and media campaigns; providing up-to-date knowledge of related legislation when needed; carrying out inspections of the waste management service provision and investigating potential downfalls to ensure that they are corrected; liaising with the public, responding to enquiries via letter or email sending or by any other means; or maintaining regular communication with the administrative centre at all time.
The position holder may hold an undergraduate degree, however, experience in an inspection and/or investigation environment is vital. He or she would show an enthusiasm for environmental and waste management issues, and would have strong IT, written and verbal communication skills. Experience in local government or local authority position would be desirable. Knowledge of current environmental and sustainability issues is a crucial requirement along with up-to-date knowledge of related acts of law.
Qualifications: A minimum of two A-Levels.
Experience: In an IT setting is essential. Work within local government would be desirable as would work involving direct public communication.
Skills: IT, written and verbal communication skills, team working skills, up-to-date knowledge of relevant acts of law, people skills.
